A Rare Offering

Few American residences carry a story of true preservation — dismantled, catalogued, and rebuilt to endure another century. Speedwell Manor is one of them.

The Residence

A Georgian house, faithfully rebuilt.

Symmetrical Flemish-bond brick, a slate roof reset from the original, four chimneys serving working fireplaces, aged copper gutters, and Doric columns preserved from the earlier Peter Blow residence. Inside, an enfilade of formal rooms opens along a center hall built for cross-ventilation.

Provenance

Built in 1842. Moved in the 1950s. Preserved ever since.

Originally raised in Tazewell, Tennessee as Castle Rock for Irish immigrant merchant Hugh Graham. In the early 1950s the house was dismantled brick by brick and rebuilt on this Lakemoor Hills peninsula by Dr. Frank Tipton Rogers, a Knoxville radiologist and Graham descendant. The historical narrative below is drawn from the estate's own archival records.
